Law firm consulting since 1997

Since 1997 we have been following the law firm market in Germany particularly closely. We analyse this market through the eyes of a law firm consultant and use the same systematic approach as used in other markets (UK US, etc.). We have worked together with the leading law firm consultants worldwide and work on the basis of a secured methodology. Our market view helps law firms to identify actual competitors and use relevant benchmarks.

Our work for law firms

Larger law firms are constantly changing. Both the environment as well as the own partnership and its organisation. It is important to recognize the need for action in the area of law firm management at an early stage, to take advantage of opportunities and to counteract risks.

We support partners and their law firms in these processes with a focus on law firm management. As consultants focusing exclusively on the law firm market, we know our clients’ concerns and their professional environment very well. Thanks to our systemic consulting competence in all questions of organisational development, we do not need learning curves and lengthy market analyses, but enable changes from the very first contact.

If many do the same, it is far from being the same.

The benefit for law firms lies in the fact that the partners see new possibilities for the further development of their firm, in which internal blockades can be dissolved, conflicts of objectives can be resolved and resulting organizational or personnel conflicts can be addressed.

We help law firms to locate themselves in their immediate competitive environment and to draw the right conclusions.

As consultants, we focus primarily on the culture of the law firms, i.e. on the convictions, beliefs and organisational framework conditions that exist after determining the economic framework conditions and a segment-specific benchmarking. To this end, we talk to all relevant stakeholders, above all partners and clients.

We benchmark all law firms on the basis of their market position and compare this with the capabilities of their competitors.

Our competence lies in more than 20 years of advising law firms. As former attorneys and legal department lawyers, we know the demands on modern lawyers like no other. This is complemented by rigorous further training in group dynamics, systemic organisational development, coaching and moderation techniques.

We have been advising law firms of all sizes since 1997; nobody knows the market and the dynamics in it better than we do. Our particular expertise lies in getting all partners to address the issues and come to a common viewpoint, which is the basis for all implementation decisions.

We can name the following cases from the last 20 years of our law firm consulting, with many examples overlapping; at the core, it is always about culture change:

  • Clarifying the future development of a law firm with 4 locations, whose partnership is in dispute over partner requirements, profit distribution and business model of a supra-local law firm and therefore does not have sufficient cooperation to turn past mergers into a competitive advantage
  • Improvement of profitability and management by introducing controlling processes based on the potential analysis of a law firm
  • Support in the context of a strategy process of a nationally leading law firm in other European countries: among other things, qualitative interviews with the legal counsel of globally leading banks and industrial companies and referral partners from the US and UK
  • Examination of the prospects of success of the merger of leading insolvency administrators in view of declining case numbers in the insolvency field, the need to consolidate the organization and reduce costs, while at the same time focusing on restructuring processes and ESUG procedures
